Publisher's summary

It was a fungus spore that finally did it, knocking humans off the top of the food chain, with a lot of help from a pharma company too busy thinking about oversized profits rather than subpar outcomes. Most folks died, if not from the fungus, then from the riots and starvation that came when the grocery store shelves emptied and the spigots ran dry. Plenty of other folks lived on with the fungus growing in their bones, rooting in their brains, and turning them three-quarters crazy.

That’s when I moved underground and sealed the hatch shut on my backyard bunker. I was safe, with all the food, water, and entertainment I needed for five or six years. I had DVDs to watch, music to listen to, and books to read. Prepping had paid off for me.

At least it seemed so at first.

After a time, my radio stopped picking up signals from the world up top and for all I knew I was the last man alive on Earth. I’d planned for that possibility, yet never truly accepted things could turn out that way. The loneliness set in, gnawing at me and making me think crazy thoughts, including one that would change everything. Two years on, I opened the hatch and climbed out of my bunker.

I had to see if anyone but me was left.

On Point for 2018!!!

Here's the thing, if you read the book and found it rough or too full of political POV's, then you are exactly what the book is about. It was never meant to be a sci fi thriller or zombie first person shooter novel. Instead, it offer a humorous and sarcastic view of the various issues leading to the downfall of our society. I am not sure our planet will see future societies.

As for Ray Porter, well, as they say in the baseball, this was a fastball right in his wheelhouse. A GRAND SLAM for Ray and his fans. You get the full gambit with Ray's narration. As a child of the 60's, I found myself saying a lot of the same things with the same sarcasm as Ray infused to this tale. Thank you again Ray Porter.

Great epilogue. I have to say, it was refreshing to hear the tag team explain things. Look forward to your next installment.

Fantastic, Excellent, and Engrossing

Absolutely loved this book. I was surprised when I became engrossed within the first few minutes. Dusty is alone and very lonely. He has been in his underground bunker for two years. Now he wants to go outside to see what is going on. Is there anyone else alive? Of course he must watch out for the infected Mushroom Head people who will surely eat him if they see him.

Going out became a very interesting occupation for Dusty and for the listener. He writes in his diary almost every day, sometimes more than once. I found his convictions about politicians and big business pretty much in line with mine. His observations about life in general were profound and extremely entertaining. - also hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud many times by the phrasing of his words and the situations he describes.

I imagine the story would be excellent in book form, but Ray Porter's narration made it extremely enjoyable. I felt that Dusty was a real person. It seemed that he was sitting in front of me and talking. He was alive! I am terribly impressed with the expression and genuine emotion that Mr. Porter displays in his narration. It is beyond wonderful - it is awesome.

There are not adequate words to describe how much I am impressed by Bobby Adair's writing and imagination, and how much I am amazed and impressed by Ray Porter's narration. This is one of the most entertaining books I have listened to in a very long time.

Great writing and Ray Porter is spot on

The book is another look at one mans struggles during a post apocalyptic life. I could not stop listening and cant wait until next 2 come out in audio. I don't think Bobby Adair could have found a better narrator.

Didn't want the story to end.

Writer covers significant ground of the 5 senses. The world he builds complete... Story often caught me laughing out loud.

Ray Porter managed the highs and lows of the human condition very well.

Best short apocalypse novel!!!!

I just recently got into audio books and I have to say this was the book that saved the day! The narrator just captivated dusty so well. Love the back story and the thought process that captivated me second by edging second. I’m a truck driver and this book gripped me to the story more then eighty thousand pounds could ever grip the road. The ending was such a cliff hanger and I keep looking for the second book and I find myself wanting more! It could be one hell of a movie!!!

Captures all the emotions!

Great but short. Leaves you wanting more stories or diary entries from Dusty. Captures the average joe do it yourself guy turned survivor idea very well.

Great narrator and good story. One of the books that you're sad when it is over. Hoping for a sequel.

Excellent

Best end of the world book. Why wait till the end of the world tell those you love now. This book is not for children but has a lot of plain truth in it.
