Hank Spears is content with his life as a scrapper until he unearths an artificial intelligence who warns him of a grave threat to all life in the universe. Since AI has long been outlawed and anyone caught harboring one is imprisoned or executed, the two must go on the run, fleeing into the far reaches of space. When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Ben Dailey's Viper Company has one motto: Play hard and fight even harder. The crew is comprised of some of the most elite fighters in the Fleet, though occasionally overconfident and, some might say, obnoxious. So when Dailey is handed down a mysterious, high-security mission that's ostensibly a search-and-rescue for his once-upon-a-time academy rival turned brother in arms, he's convinced there's more to the job than meets the eye. Soon, the USF Murphy is on its way to the edge of the Void to track down what happened to Capt. Rick Bearing and the Asher-5.

Chase had it all planned out. Do a little time in one of the emperor's jails, say a four-year stretch, for getting rid of some trash that no one would miss, and when he got out, the path to leadership would be wide open. Unfortunately, his bastard of a father, the same one who left his mother to die in poverty and him to run wild on the streets, took an interest. Seeing him sitting on the bench when his case went to court was a shock. But not as big a shock as being sentenced to ten years in the Imperial Navy.

Story
Benning Kidd is a Drone, the lowest class of humanity. She exists without memory, purpose, or more than the most basic awareness of herself and the world around her. An accident changes all that, and Benning becomes a Citizen of the Collective, the first Drone to do so in history. She is uniquely talented and unscrupulously driven, choosing a path of battle and glory that will take her from arena to arena and out among the stars themselves.

Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Too many inconsistencies.
It's annoying when main characters are supposed to be intelligent but act stupid. Asking stupid questions for stupid Answers. When there's far more important questions to ask is just aggravating. The writer clearly doesn't have any scientific knowledge because There is no air in space for air pockets to surf. Then there's this mixing of metals and minerals to use as a cure all. That's not even scientific, It's on the level of imaginary nonsense. What's next? You gonna introduce magic wands and orks? I could list dozens of issues with this book. It's good for a first time author but they really needs to spend more time polishing before publishing.

like the narrator
no voluntary hero, with so many superior gifts and advantages, would operate in ,such an informational vacuum that this plot has ,willingly without bringing things to a halt

Characters!
Wonderful characters! They are starting to get defined and have plenty of room to grow. Perfect story for our hero and his half snarky humor.
Great job and great start!

I liked the English accent of the AI which stood out nice from reading
I really enjoyed the action and adventure of the main character and then the crew that he acquired. There was plenty of humor and the book was well written. I thought the narrator did a fantastic job And I've already started book 2.

Very enjoyable, Top-notch concept and execution.
This one checks most all of the boxes on my list of what makes a sci-fi series fun to listen to. The characters are likable, the pacing does not drag, the version of our galaxy it takes place in and how tech works there are interesting, and the narrator is pleasant to listen to. I am looking forward to seeing how the series progresses.

a fun story
I really enjoyed this one. It's not your traditional space opera, but it does pack a lot of worldbuilding and fun elements to explore. I think many will enjoy. The characters are fun and engaging and the writing is very good. Narrator is great too.
