Famous three-time Grand Slam winner Arthur Ashe pointed out that many in sports fall victim to “paralysis by analysis”. Athletes on any level can experience the pain of overthinking and sabotaging their performance. Blame many traditional methods of teaching and training. How can we train smarter, not harder? If only our body and mind could perform in a way that’s more natural and instinctive. The best athletes have this quality, but many feel it is simply unattainable for them. I assure you it is not.

Story
He's been called the best in the world at the mental game of tennis. Brad Gilbert's strokes may not be pretty, but looks aren't everything. He has beaten the tour's biggest names - all by playing his "ugly" game. Now, in Winning Ugly, Gilbert teaches recreational players how to win more often without necessarily even changing their strokes. The key to success, he says, is to become a better thinking player - to recognize, analyze, and capitalize. That means out-thinking opponents before, during, and after a match - forcing him or her to play your game.

Perfect
I’ve studied Krav Maga, and these types of self defense strategies for years. It’s exactly what it says it is. Everything he says is true, and works. It’s a simplistic, rendered down version of Krav Maga in my mind. Only thing I do not agree with, as throwing your keys. Do not throw your keys at attacker. That is your car house, your business, and everything else you are giving that person. Use them to rake access their face if you have to. But please don’t throw your keys.

Good overall, would be better in physical form.
A nice short book, decent at explaining techniques but without visual you are ft to your imagination... For those with no experience in MMA etc... it could be confusing without visuals so I would definitely look up some videos online, just make sure these are reliable videos and not random wanna bees online...

Decent Self Defense Information.
This is the full book but it's abridged information. The author is hitting the highlights of violence and self protection/defense. There is good information and I recommend this book as a starting point but you'll need more. This author has a sequel to this book that I'm listening to next. Maybe it covers more information under the highlights this book covered.

Great Book
I have worked in the Security industry for over thirty five years and taught many self defense classes. This book boils down self defense to it's most basic concepts: avoid the confrontation if at all possible, but if you do have to fight, fight to win and be aware of the consequences. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Loved it! Very informative.
Would you listen to How to Defend Yourself in 3 Seconds (or Less!) again? Why?
Yes! I like how the book was broken down into easy to navigate sections on self defense, safety and tactics. I would refer back to the book as a refresher.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Since this was more of a "How To" book the main characters for me were the writer and voice talent. The information was easy to understand and Mr. Actis did a great job.
Have you listened to any of Rob Actis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have heard Rob Actis on national tv spots. He seems to always know who his audience is and performs with that in mind. Very clear, strong and smooth.
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
The best self defense is to be aware of your surroundings so that you can avoid trouble in the first place. And that running away (when possible) is sometimes the smartest and most resourceful safety tactic of all.

Defend CHECK! Loved it!
What did you love best about How to Defend Yourself in 3 Seconds (or Less!)?
I loved how it grabbed me right from the beginning. I am not an avid fighter. I am a wife, mother, fitness and nutrition expert, and creator of a online transformation program. I have knowledge and experience in the field of fitness. One thing I love about being in this industry I is the constant drive I have to learn more. It has been said that martial arts is the fastest growing sport in America, I believe it and I have seen it come into my own life with first my son, then my daughter and now my husband. We love it!
I love the concept of preparedness, not only in martial arts but in life! That is what fitness is all about, being prepared with our mind and our body absolutely goes with everything I believe in about life.
Psychology is everything and this concept also bleeds out of this book and into our daily lives.
I loved the voice of Rob Actis, I have listened to a few books that I could not stand the voice, thankfully this book was easy listening and easy to follow because of the enjoyable way in which Rob unveils these secrets and keeps true to the authors intent!
What did you like best about this story?
To believe in our-self. To let our body react how it should. That we all have the ability to succeed and be winners.
Which character – as performed by Rob Actis – was your favorite?
I loved listening to Rob! He is amazing and his voice was perfect. Not too over the top and not too dull. I felt this performance of his was top notch and I actually looked up other books that he has done because of it!
At first I did not think it was a big deal (the voice I listened too) but then I downloaded one I detested and now I always listen first! :) The voice does matter and I loved how Rob uses his voice to engage, enlighten and enthuse! You are amazing Rob!
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
1,2,3
Avoid the Threat
Counter Attacking
Remove
Easy, loved it.
Distraction and evasion, I also loved. It inspires one to use our brain in sticky situations!
Any additional comments?
Defend yourself is an empowering book on how to be prepared, especially when we need to defend ourselves. Many of us may think that nothing like this would ever happen to us, until it does. Many of us may think we know what we would do in this type of situation, and yet we know that unless we are prepared both mentally and physically we can fall victim.
My family loves jiu jitsu and our amazing instructor. I even did it once! I need to get back there and this book inspired me to do so! We have learned so much through this sport. I took my 8 year old out of dance and gym and into this art form to gain confidence, she is a different person. These tactics are real, they are amazing and they work.
As a mother I found this book hugely helpful for my brain to understand more about what is going on.
This book helped me feel more prepared on both accounts. I loved it and feel empowered!
