Publisher's summary

Charlie Johnson is your average American teenager. He’s a good student, he’s a good son, his girlfriend is the love of his life. He’s a nice kid. Charlie also murders people for their sins. A serious car accident leaves Charlie comatose, and when he comes to, he suffers from visions of unspeakable horror that keep him awake at night. He soon discovers that when he touches people, he can sense their evil and see their greatest evils. Some crimes are too terrible to describe. Some crimes are too terrible to go unanswered. Some crimes can be averted...but only if you’re willing to step into that world.

A blending of Dexter with Frailty

Sinful reminds me of the Bill Paxton movie, Frailty. An amazing movie if you've never seen it. In it a father finds that he is given a list of names of people who must be destroyed, and when he touches them he can see their sins and transgressions. In another way, this book also has the feel of the Showtime program, Dexter, in which a man is driven to kill, compelled by an insastiable need, but curbed and mitigated by his only killing the killers.

Charlie is that father and Dexter rolled into one. Heck, I might even thow in a comparison to Stephen King's the Dead Zone, because Charlie can prevent crimes that will happen if he doesn't step up and do what he has to. The book is over all to briefly, as we do not get nearly enough time with Charlie.

The book is not predictable in any way, and will take you to areas you aren't expecting and may not want to go. It is a compelling read that will hang with you long after you finish.

Some of he success must go to Rick Gregory, who does an outstanding job narrating. He provides real angst to Charlie, and makes even the simplistic character have more depth. I do enjoy listening to him, his pacing, and the way he brings a scene to life. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Extreme graphic violence

Well-written.

Liked the concept of the story. Too much bad language for my liking. Did not finish the book.

I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Imagine you could see the evil in people

Wow what a book. Heath Stallcup has really done it with the very creepy story.

Charlie was 17 years old working in a donut shop. While driving home one icy winter night he lost control and wrecked his car. He was in a coma for over 2 months, during which time he turned 18.

Once awake from the coma Charlie has terrible dreams where he sees an evil man torturing and killing little girls. When near people or while touching them, Charlie can see all the evil in that person.

After Charlie is released from the hospital he finds out the man he sees in his dreams killing little girls is also the man who saved his life the night of his accident. Charlie decides that his visions are Gods way of telling him to get rid of the evil people in his hometown. Charlie goes after the man and kills him. He knows where the man had his death studio and decides to use it himself while ridding the town of the rest of the evil people as well.

Rick Gregory narrates the audiobook and fully kept my attention through the whole book. his voices and emotion was spot on with the story.

I actually listened to this book during an 8 hour trip home from a visit with my daughter. It really helped pass the time.

Great listen

I knew how this story was going to end but the author made the effort of getting there so worth it! This is easily one of the best-written "POV of the serial killer" books I've listened to.

You had to feel for Charlie. He came by his murder streak completely by accident. The people he disposes of needs disposing of (IMO) but wrong is wrong.

The narration was well done and is probably why I had mixed emotions about the ending. I won't give anything away though.

Creepy! Horrific! Great story!

I just finished reading Sinful. This book left me wondering. Crazy or God's tool? 50-50%. Few books have left me up in the air. This one did. And I love it because of that. Very hard thing to successfully pull off. I heartily recommend this book. And now for the obligatory: "I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

Dexter meets Unbreakable

What a neat story. Definitely had a Frailty vibe but less dark and creepy. If you like that movie then you will most likely enjoy this book, and vice versa. This story is Tarantinoed a bit, starts towards the end and then goes back, so it is full throttle from the start. With a story like this you know that there is really only one way that it should end and it is just the circumstances around it that are different. I think the saying, you either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain, is appropriate here. Either way the story is full of suspense from the start all the way through to the epilogue. My only complaint, which isn't a big one, is that the story does feel a little familiar with many other books, movies, and tv shows having a similar plot. I would have liked to have seen this story do something completely new with it and take it to a whole different level.
Rick Gregory did a great job narrating this story. He provides different voices for the characters and does a great job with it. I don't think this book would have had the same feel without him as the narrator.

Teenage Vigilante

I totally enjoyed this book and I originally thought it might have been a book for teen which definitely is not. It has graphic sadistic scenes and not for faint of heart. It is about Charlie who has developed his ability to see evil deeds of people after his coma and wants revenge. It has twists and turns but did some really deserve it. Look forward to more of his books and recommend if you enough suspenseful horror thriller with touch of paranormal. Good narration.
