Publisher's summary

"Giving up" alcohol might sound daunting...but what are you actually giving up when you're hungover on the sofa all day? Cutting out the booze can transform your life in unexpected ways.

We live in a culture that celebrates alcohol use as if it were somehow different from the drugs we place legal restrictions on.

We mark every occasion with alcohol, whether it's a good day, bad day, new job, old job, divorce, wedding, funeral, birthday, holiday and the list goes on and on…you can always guarantee that someone, somewhere, is getting drunk…and it's "normal" to get drunk right?

Alcohol is the one drug that if we have too much of it we are shamed for our behaviour, but if we decide not to drink, we are classed as boring. We live on a drunk planet.

Our love of alcohol is holding us back. Think about the last time you had a drink–even if you weren't conscious of a hangover, you probably felt some effects.

Perhaps your head was a bit cloudy, or you took longer to get going in the morning.

Perhaps you were tired and reaching for the snacks to keep you going at the end of the day.

Maybe you had hopes and dreams before alcohol became a regular occurrence.

Alcohol is expensive, and it has side effects that go far beyond just having a headache the next day.

Imagine the difference in your life if you were to take those side effects away and save the money to fund what you really want to do with your life–and there's a strong chance it involves something a whole lot more fulfilling than a glass of wine or bottle of beer.

Sober on a Drunk Planet: Giving Up Alcohol recognizes how difficult it is to break free of drinking culture and provides you with all the motivation you need to kickstart a new life.

Great Conversation Starter

I have a very close friend who has a hard time staying sober. But if I ever attempt to speak with him about it he would immediately go on the defense and get angry. I bought this book hoping it would help me to have a conversation with him without his immediate fury. I now feel that I will be able to attempt to help my friend with some well-informed points that will not sound judgmental or condescending.

Being Sober can be great!

I have a few months being sober and I decided to make that change for multiple reason and it has been hard because of family and friends that are use to drinking and don't understand the reasons I chose to be sober even when I explain to them. But after hearing this book it has given me more motivation to stay sober and I feel like I'm finally understood and that I'm not alot out here and that I can still have fun being sober! it's a great book and it explains in detail reason why people should stay sober. I really recommend!

Very impressed!

This can be a very difficult and complex topic, and the author handled it incredibly well. My favorite part was how he connected to the reader and truly understood being sober in today's world. This is a great book for the occasional drinker or someone who enjoys a nightly glass of wine. You will be fully equipped to deal with society's drinking culture.

I needed this book

I’ve tried giving up alcohol many times. I’ve been a glass-of-wine-a-day person for years, but was a heavy drinker in college. I wanted to quit but fell into the trap the author describes so well. If you have a problem with alcohol or drugs, this book will hopefully help you like it’s helped me.

Sober never sounded so good!

I was 1 week sober when I decided to buy this book, I travel about 45 minutes one way to work and listened daily. I can't tell you how much it related to my life from Chapter 1! Can't wait to dive into the next 3 books!! highly recommend!

Freeing and Healing

I was trying to understand my brothers alcohol problem. I listen a few books, this being the latest. I drink but I'm a normal drinker and I wanted my brother to be normal too, so we could enjoy drinking together. I didn't want to quit. I liked beer. The smell, the taste and the sound of it pouring into a glass. It was golden goodness. But now, thanks to this book, I have quit drinking and I don't like beer anymore. I'll be very surprised if I ever drink again. I don't even think about it and it's really strange. So thanks a lot you've ruined my relationship with alcohol. Now what?

A Must listen if u want 2 know how/why to be sober

I don't drink "much" lol, but I know for sure there are countless times I've regrated picking up that bottle. This book has not only provided me with the consequences of drinking but also provided a sustainable strategy to be 100% sober. I totally recommend it.
