Publisher's summary

Everyone in Sugar Creek Gap has tried to fix up widow and beloved mail carrier Bernadette Davis on several dates. They say she has to be lonely.

What they don't know is how Bernadette's life is filled...filled with everyone's hidden secrets and obsessions. After all, she does deliver their mail and hears all the dirty laundry southern folks love to sweep secrets under the rug.

While on her route, Bernadette finds out the beloved Sugar Creek Gap Country Club is being sold and turned into condos. The developer is Bernadette's best friend, Mac Tabor, and right now he's not very popular.

The entire town is against the development and eager to vote it down, vowing they will do whatever needs to be done to stop the sell of the country club to Mac Tabor.

Chuck Shilling, majority owner of the country club, and Mac have a public fight because Chuck is rethinking of selling the club to Mac. When Chuck is found dead, Mac Tabor is the number one suspect.

Bernadette discovers she's got a penchant for discovering clues that just might help stamp out a killer who is on the loose while trying to save Mac Tabor from going to prison for a murder he didn't commit.

very good

Good plot, setting and characters. Always happy to find a cozy heroine who isn't an idiot. 😊

The narration is excellent. Nice voice , easy to distinguish who's speaking.

Going postal?

Although this first book in a new series wasn’t one of my favorites by this author, it did offer some appeal. The narrator wasn’t quite as good & sounding as smooth in the beginning, but she did seem to get better by book’s end. The storyline seemed a bit slow to develop but did contain some interesting twists. Small town, widowed mail carrier, a gentleman best friend of her husband trying to watch over her to keep her safe is accused of murder. Lots of kept secrets & colorful characters show promise for plots in future stories. The ending was a nice touch prodding me to follow up with book 2 to see how this series develops.

Surprise ending

I love Tonya Kappes’s stories.
This one had the typical cast of quirky & entertaining hometown characters with an unsuspected villain.
The ending leaves a small question mark and potential for her next story.

I really wanted to like it but the narration

The story line seemed ok but the narration wasn’t great, especially the main character. I couldn’t finish it

Delivering the News, Sniffing Out Clues

This is a delightful series! And in a small town in Kentucky to boot! Mail carrier, Bernie Davis, a widow in her fifties, delivers a lot more than the mail, visiting with and commiserating with the citizens of Sugar Creek Gap as she makes her way from house to house on her route. Sometimes dropping off food, garden seeds or other things they need, Bernie hears all the gossip, good and bad, so when there is a brouhaha about the sale of the Country Club, she hears it. But she’s not prepared when her best friend, Mac Tabor gets in a fight with majority owner, Chuck Shilling, who is later found dead . . . and Mac is arrested. The town is split down the middle, some thinking Mac is innocent, others not. But no matter how it looks. Bernie sticks by her friend, and decides to investigate the matter herself. This is the beginning of the best series to date for author, Tonya Kappes! I hope it continues for a long time!
