Publisher's summary

Rick Riordan, the best-selling author of the Percy Jackson series, pumps up the action and suspense in The Lost Hero, the first book in The Heroes of Olympus series.

"Riordan extends the franchise in a logical direction while maximizing the elements that made the first series so popular: irreverent heroes, plenty of tension-filled moments fighting monsters, and authentic classical mythology mixed in with modern life."—Horn Book

A New York Times best-seller

A spin-off of the blockbuster Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, but stands on its own

Combines Roman and Greek mythology

Told from the points of view of a diverse cast of demigods

Memorable characters, witty dialogue, and non-stop action have made this series popular across the globe

Perfect for middle grade listeners but can be enjoyed by older listeners, too

Jason has a problem. He doesn't remember anything before waking up on a school bus holding hands with a girl. Apparently she's his girlfriend Piper, his best friend is a kid named Leo, and they're all students in the Wilderness School, a boarding school for "bad kids." What he did to end up here, Jason has no idea—except that everything seems very wrong.

Piper has a secret. Her father has been missing for three days, and her vivid nightmares reveal that he's in terrible danger. Now her boyfriend doesn't recognize her, and when a freak storm and strange creatures attack during a school field trip, she, Jason, and Leo are whisked away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood. What is going on?

Leo has a way with tools. His new cabin at Camp Half-Blood is filled with them. Seriously, the place beats Wilderness School hands down, with its weapons training, monsters, and fine-looking girls. What's troubling is the curse everyone keeps talking about, and that a camper's gone missing. Weirdest of all, his bunkmates insist they are all—including Leo—related to a god.

Fans of demigods, prophecies, and quests will be left breathless—and panting for Book Two.

An amazing start

This book was amazing, a great start in the sequel series of Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. The voice acting was incredible, albeit I did not like pipers voice at first but it really grew on me (but I still miss the og voice actor from the pjo series) and the story telling was suspenseful and so well written. Although I’m sad to say I got some spoilers from Tik tok and trying to take JUST a Percy Jackson quiz and it said who would die eventually but I’m not gonna spoil anything. One thing that does annoy me though is that the next book in the series, The Son of Neptune, is the only one of the Heroes of Olympus series to not be on audible or any other audiobook service in the US :( Overall an amazing book and I can’t wait till the next one is on here :)

Horrible Narration, Great Story

I listened to all of the Percy Jackson books on Audible and was expecting the same quality. It wasn’t even close. The person doing Jason was fine-if they could’ve found equal talent for the other two, this would be a different review. So I’m giving this 3 stars for that reason. If you can listen and enjoy the great story without getting distracted by the performance then this won’t be troubling to you and I highly recommend the story. But Caveat Emptor-be aware that the performance mileage may vary.

Terrible narrator(s)

The jason voice was good, normal. The Leo voice was alright but was terrible at doing female voices. The Piper voice was terrible. Bad tone, bad cadence, mispronounced multiple names consistently. If it had just been one narrator it would have been fine. 3 narrators makes no sense considering the story is in 3rd person. Not even 1st.

loved it

love that more than narrated this story. I love Rick Riordan even though I am a middle aged adult. frustrating that the 2nd book in the series is not available on audible.

Why did they ruin this audiobook?

The original audiobook was great! The way the narration is divided (based on chapter) makes for inconsistent voices for all characters of the book and it’s incredibly annoying. At least having the option to choose the original would be nice.

Story it’s GREAT but I didn’t like pipers narration

I didn’t feel like pipers character matched the narration. It felt a little to squeaky.

Great story, disappointing voice actors

I’ve always loved Rick riordans stories, and have read and listened to them dozens of times and it’s always amazing. Until this book. The va’s are so hard to listen too, always mispronouncing names and places and have awful voices for monsters and people. Especially Rainy Fields and Avi Roque, no offense to them, they did a good job of not stuttering, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEAASE learn how to pronounce gods’ names and places. Whenever I hear rainy talk in a monster voice it makes me want to curl up and die, it’s so cringey. Avi does an ok job overall but when he does female voices, it hurts and is horribly inaccurate. 10/10 story, 1/10 voice acting.

Wonderfully diverse

I enjoyed the way each character’s chapter was portrayed by its own character actor. It made for a true understanding of each characters personality. The diversity kept the story from becoming bland.
