Publisher's summary

They're rebels, scoundrels, and blackguards - dark, dashing men on the wrong side of the law. But for the women who love them, a hint of danger only makes the heart beat faster.

Gavin St. James, Earl of Thorne, is a notorious Highlander and an unrelenting Lothario who uses his slightly menacing charm to get what he wants-including too many women married to other men. But now, Gavin wants to put his shady past behind him...more or less. When a fiery lass who is the heiress to the land he wishes to possess drops into his lap, he sees a perfectly delicious opportunity.

A marriage most convenient

Samantha Masters has come back to Scotland, in a pair of trousers, and with a whole world of dangerous secrets from her time spent in the Wild West trailing behind her. Her only hope of protection is to marry - and to do so quickly. Gavin is only too willing to provide that service for someone he finds so disturbingly irresistible. But even as danger approaches, what begins as a scandalous proposition slowly turns into an all-consuming passion. And Gavin discovers that he will do whatever is necessary to keep the woman he has claimed as his own.

Best of the Series So Far

Wow! Kerrigan Byrne just keeps getting better. I absolutely loved this book! The narration by Derek Perkins put it over the top. Hoping there will be more books in the series. Will definitely be listening to this one again.

Gotta love those Scots!

Absolutely loved this story! My first time using audible. So it was even better to be able to listen to it! Kerrigan just gets better and better! Absolutely adore this lady!

Samantha/Allison is my sister from another mister! We are so alike. I really loved her. Gavin is intriguing. But, I will definitely have to side with Sam!

OMG I love Gavin and Sam! HOT HOT HOT

The youngest Mackenzie brother is now 36 years old and finds himself in a property war mess with a feisty young American lass. She is an imposter with past... and it doesn't take long before the sparks are flying!

I love Derek Perkins when he talks SEX. And there's plenty of it here. The author doesn't hold back on her language when it comes to cursing and explicit carnal bliss. Chapter 23 OMG.

This was my favorite of all the books in this series. I think the title is not appropriate and the teenage crush of a boy on the cover is soooo wrong!

It's a keeper in my library and very worth the credit.

I was not overly impressed

It was okay but seemed somewhat juvenile and rushed. There were several background stories that seem glossed over and not well explained. I don't know if they were covered in previous books in the series or were just thrown in with very little detail. The heroine did not grow on me as I hoped she would. I liked the male lead, but the story about his terrible abuse by his father seems overdone. Also the mix of a woman from America and a highlander did not work for me. I will say that the narrator was very good.

Refreshing!

This is one of my favorite books in the series. I like that she brought in an American element, and we got a taste of the Wild, Wild West! This book felt fresh to me, even after listening to all of the others in the series.

Like you might imagine, having characters from the American West, chock full of bandits and outlaws, there is a fair amount of swearing, especially from our female love interest, Samantha. She swears like a sailor! She's a rides a horse like a man, regails stories like the infamous feud between the Hatfields and the McCoys contemporaneously, and shoots her pistol to make a point. Like all of the characters in the series, she is damaged, but she is strong. I loved her, And as always Derek Perkins did a great job with her voice and accent.
I think this book was a bit less steamy as others in the series, but there was still enough for those of us who don't mind a slightly more "graphic" experience. Gavin St. James is super hot and a bit less rough around the edges as some of our other heroes. He's not a ruthless killer like Christopher Argent (The Hunter) or Liam MacKenzie (The Highlander) and that also was refreshing. He's a gentleman, a ladies man, with a chip on his shoulder, and our female main character is the rough and tumble one of the two of them. Again, very refreshing!

Kerrigan Byrne is one of my favorite writers in this genre, and this series has helped make my "social distancing" summer a lot more bearable. I love listening while I do yardwork, gardening and other projects. On to the next book in the series!

Another fantastic read from Kerrigan Byrnes and Derek Perkins.

Love this series despite myself

Gavin’s story is well towards what I’m guessing will have to be the final installments, though who knows.
Readers should start at the beginning or by this time you’ll feel clueless at different references and the fuller meaning of the relationships. I’m glad the author doesn’t stop to fully explain everything for readers starting so far in.. it’d take forever and drive me crazy.
The closest to a stand-alone I think is “The Duke” who is a compatriot but not really related directly to the MacKenzie clan or their dealings.
As I said, not sure after first couple of the installments, why the similar themes despite the wildly, gratefully different stories keeps drawing me back. Guess I’m a sucker for what one of the women said, “sometimes the safest place to be is by the side of a violent man.” Though so far, the series doesn’t wallow or show violence, but refers more to past violence, and most of it because of war or necessity and to the “bad guys.” The most painful reading is of how the the heroes became “violent,” through ill treatment as children. Those descriptions are plain awful. But as grown, avenging men, they are fascinating to read about. And each heroine is just as well developed, maybe more-so, and fully her very own character, no repeats among them. So I keep reading merrily along. Since I’m a HEA gal at heart, I’m always happy to know despite what seems inescapable mess, somehow it’ll get sorted out.😉

Wonderful!

This is my favorite book in the series. I loved them all but this one made me laugh out loud often. I liked Gavin just fine but I LOVED Samantha. She is strong and willful and together she and Gavin are absolutely hilarious, as are the supporting characters! There is nothing in this book I did not like, and Mr. Perkins’ performance is perfect.

A Scot and his woman

Another great book by the author and the narrator is absolutely fabulous. Samantha saves Allison’s life in the process killing her husband. Allison tells her to take her identity and flee to the Highlands of Scotland which she does. When Sam sees her new home it arouses more strength in her that she knew she had. Continuously coming into contact with Gavin doesn’t help. When her life and that of the inhabitants of the keep are put in danger she turns to Gavin for help. A wonder book with a few twists at the end! Can’t wait to listen to more!

The best of the best

I stumble across Kerrigan Byrne after finishing reading several knight, wolves and highlanders books. I love this book and the other four. kerrigan books holds and draws you into the stories that make you smile, laugh and not enough sleep because you cannot put the audio book down. I am looking forward to more books seried like the Victorian Rebels.
