She has come to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three murderers, thieves, and warriors in a deadly competition, she will be released from prison to serve as the King's Champion.
But something rotten dwells in the castle – and it's there to kill. When her competitors start dying mysteriously, one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival – and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world, and the people she has come to love.

To all the world, Alizeh is a disposable servant, not the long-lost heir to an ancient Jinn kingdom forced to hide in plain sight. The crown prince, Kamran, has heard the prophecies foretelling the death of his king. Story
Nineteen-year-old Signa Farrow, orphaned as a baby, has been raised by a string of guardians, each more interested in her wealth than her well-being—and each has met an untimely end. Her last remaining relatives are the Hawthornes, an eccentric family living at the glittering and gloomy estate of Thorn Grove. Thorn Grove’s patriarch, Elijah, mourns his late wife, Lillian, through wild parties and drink, while eldest son Percy grapples for control of the family’s waning reputation and daughter Blythe suffers from the same mysterious illness that killed her mother.

Couldn't stop listening
I loved the story and the narrator was excellent! Only a few chapters in I got so invested in this fantasy world and finished it in two days (I still had to study a bit in between...). If you love fantasy mixed with cunning drama, a dash of romance and a great bunch of fight scenes, you need to get this book.
Okay, I'm off to get the next one.

You can tell SJM was young when she wrote this
Excellent performance in the audio book, but my god is it full of cliches and tropes. I heard great things about the series tho, will continue!

A girly, simplistic story
I'm probably not the target audience, based on book database rating I expected a better story. classic clichés, flat characters.

every chapter is a delight!
After I finished the ACOTAR series, my best friend automatically recommended this to me and I swear to god every chapter is a delight and that I am automatically hooked! I am about to read/listen to the next book and cannot wait to gush this over to her. Actually, Sarah J Maas is superb! and to the narrator of this book, I super love you!
