Publisher's summary
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
Winner of the 2019 Premi Ciutat de Barcelona.
A haunting journey between life and death, between love and loss in this notable debut novel by Mateo García Elizondo
«I came to Zapotal to die once and for all. As soon as I set foot in town, I got rid of everything I had in my pockets, the keys to the house I left behind, and anything that had my name or my picture on it. All I have left are three thousand pesos, two hundred grams of opium and a quarter of an ounce of heroin, and that should be enough to kill myself." The protagonist, and also narrator, of this novel goes in search of a final date with “the lady” in the form of a white powder, and for this he undertakes a journey in which he will come across disturbing characters, the ghosts of friends that have died along the way, memories of the great city that he left behind, and he will also face his own past.
In this amazing and extraordinary debut novel, Mateo García Elizondo narrates the spectral descent of an addict into the depths of hell.

It’s the summer of ’77 in New York City, and the only thing more unnerving than the scorching heatwave is the rampant murder, leaving washed-up homicide detective Richard Dietrich on edge. When Dietrich investigates a brutal mob hit the brass doesn’t want him to solve, he goes from phoning it in to getting in over his head. Caught up in a mysterious second homicide with an even more perplexing perpetrator, Dietrich starts to second guess his instincts—and his memory—as he searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle.

Story
The 13 chapters of The Art of War, each devoted to one aspect of warfare, were compiled by the high-ranking Chinese military general, strategist, and philosopher Sun-Tzu. In spite of its battlefield specificity, The Art of War has found new life in the modern age, with leaders in fields as wide and far-reaching as world politics, human psychology, and corporate strategy finding valuable insight in its timeworn words.
