Publisher's summary

I’m in love with my best friend.

Lie.

I’m in love with my enemy.

Truth.

But they’re the same.

They. Are. The. Same.

Lines in my world are blurry between fantasy and reality. Truth and lies. Love and hate.

Copeland Justice is my enemy. My once best friend. The sadist in my heart plucking and pulling at every thread of who I am until I’m unraveled at his feet.

His mouth says he hates me. His eyes burn with animosity for me. His heart beats for someone else.

But Copeland Justice is the best liar of us all.

Absolutely Amazing!!!

💙💜 We’re Penn and Cope,” I tell him, with a peck to his lips. “Best friends. Like always. Two tornadoes. But instead of bouncing off each other and wreaking havoc alongside the other, we’ve become one. Unstoppable.” 💜💙

This book is well recommended in our audio book groups 💖 and I get why now! What a great story!

This is Cope and Penn’s story. They were childhood best friends who stopped talking for 2 years and inevitably get back in each other’s lives.
I’m not gonna lie, Cope drove me crazy on the first few chapters. He was full of seemingly-cruel jabs towards Penn. As the story goes on, it quickly becomes clear that the poor thing is clearly confused and puts up his walls of lies. Penn is a darling. I just wanted to hug him and protect him from his d*ckface of a father!

There were some twists and turns, lots of family drama and some small-town high school gossip.
The world-building was very relatable in the way it’s written.

I specially enjoyed Cope and Penn fall madly in love with each other, with Cope finally caving up after all the “practicing”. I love how strong their love is, solidly built from years of friendship. They stuck together despite whatever curveball was thrown at them.

Teddy Hamilton and Jacob Morgan really did wonderful in this story. Their narration brought so much life out of the story. Teddy’s voice captures Penn’s hopeless romantic nature. Jacob’s voice captures Cope’s rough & tough exterior but vulnerable nature. Both narrators did excellent! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Five wicked stars for this story!

Well written

This is a best-friends to enemies to lovers story following Penn and Cope. They are also in high school so of course, there are some juvenile behaviors typical of this age. What is heartbreaking is that they face so many barriers because of who they love and I really wish the world wouldn't be like this. However, I know that while this is fiction, people do face these horrible behaviors from other people, including parents.

It was a well-written interesting story. Very steamy and to a level that is unnecessary. However, the characters, including their best friend Leah, are great, especially as Cope grows to accept love. I enjoyed this story.

Part of the enjoyment is the narration for the audiobook. Teddy Hamilton and Jacob Morgan are two of the best narrators and they are amazing in this audiobook. (as expected) Emotion, great pacing and overall, just a beautiful auditory experience. I'm happy I had the opportunity to listen to this book through audible escape.

My favorite MM romance

Two neighbor best friends get into an argument due to misunderstood feelings. But was it? Penn has been in love with Copeland for a long time but isn’t out. After Penn kissed Copeland, Cope hit him and stopped talking to him for 2 years. One night at a party, Penn gets in a fight and Cope comes to help him out and feelings get stirred up! It is just the best mm story ever and I repeat this listen several times a year. It’s a comfort listen because Jacob and Teddy are gold!

I loved this book!

I'm not sure what it was exactly that made me love this book. I think it was a combination of the narrators (mostly the narrators) they really made the characters come to life, and the story line. While the 'gay for you' story was a bit of a stretch, I loved how these two guys were able to come back together after a single moment nearly tore them apart forever. My only criticism was the character's names. I know of no one named Copeland and only one person, a celebrity, named Penn. But I guess that's what keeps things interesting.

Awesome!!!

Great listen. Literally finished in one lazy Saturday while a store raged on outside and equally within his awesome find. I was trying to find another book narrated by Jacob Morgan and stumbled upon this. So glad I did. The author did a great job with this book, but I have to say after 2 years of being frenemies C finally gave in without being as freaked out of scared as I would've thought he would be to finally be with P. However, I like how they didn't get too caught up in titles and simply focused on loving each other and supporting each other through the evil their father's put them through. Then of course Teddy Hamilton and Jacob Morgan...Perfection!😍 5 stars just like Sabrina Browne Him. That was my first M/M novel and I've been hooked ever since. Great story. Worth the credit!

Exhilarating and seductive!

4.5 wickedly delicious stars!

Extremely angsty and HOT!!! I loved the friends to enemies to lovers story line and the tension between the two main characters. Cope and Penn had once been the best of friends but one unrequired kiss ruined everything.

The unfolding of romance between Penn and Cope was heartwarming and explosive. I loved how they ventured into unknown territory with each other, trusting one another explicitly. They leaned on their traumatic past experiences together to reinforce their trust and faith in one another. Everything they'd been through together as kids built a stable foundation for love as young adults.

The family drama between all of the characters' families was so chaotic. Why parents feel the need to marry off their teenagers will never make sense to me, except when it's within these richer than sin type stories. With money comes power and the more power you hold, the more ridiculous choices you make apparently.

The only reason this wasn't a 5 star read for me was because the quick turnaround of Cope's feelings felt very unlikely, given his character and the extreme reaction he had to Penn's kiss. He didn't speak to his best friend for 2 years, but then within a span of a few weeks, he was bending to Penn's will and exploring a side of his sexuality he was so sure was non-existent.

Perfection

I can’t say enough how much I love this audiobook. The story of Pen and Cope is heart wrenching, heart warming, and deliciously hot. The love and chemistry between them is palpable from page one and makes you only fall harder for them. Jacob and Teddy perform this title to absolute perfection. They are already two of my favorite narrators so to have them together for this story is already gold.

Terrible blurb. Okay book.

I avoided this book for a long time because of the melodramatic blurb. Eventually, I tried it (free-thank you Audible Escape). The beginning could use some edits (again with the melodrama), but it's actually fairly enjoyable.

It's worth noting that the characters are in high school, which I did not expect. It has an OC kind of vibe, in that the characters are very wealthy and their problems are not the problems most of us face, at least not on the surface. Under the set dressing, though, this is a story about being a legal adult who is still trapped in a dysfunctional family environment. The characters are likeable, and the narrators do a good job.
