Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 66 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Wednesday morning 12 June 2024. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent. In rugby union: So why do we tip the Brumbies to bamboozle the Blues at Eden Park in their Super Rugby Pacific semifinal on Friday night?Because, of all the Aussie franchises, the boys from Canberra can – they have the grit, guts and grunt in their forward pack to overhaul the pretty boys from Auckland who may have lost their Captain Tuipolotu as well.As for our tip for the Chiefs to curry potato the Hurricanes in Wellington - simple, All Blacks spots are at stake, and in several key individual match-ups we think the mooloos from Waikato will be more desperate. In rugby league: Jason Taumalolo has been named to start at lock for the Cowboys against the Canberra Raiders at GIO Stadium on Friday, after coming off the bench in his last seven games. In other NRL games this weekend, on Thursday - Cronulla Sharks vs Dolphins at PointsBet Stadium Friday - South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Brisbane Broncos at Accor Stadium Saturday - Wests Tigers vs Gold Coast Titans at Leichhardt Oval, NZ Warriors vs Melbourne Storm at Go Media Stadium and Parramatta Eels vs Sydney Roosters at CommBank Stadium On Sunday - Manly Sea Eagles vs St George Illawarra Dragons at 4 Pines Park and Newcastle Knights vs Penrith Panthers at McDonald Jones Stadium In the T20 World Cup Cricket: Jasprit Bumrah was the hero as India beat Pakistan by six runs in a low-scoring T20 World Cup thriller on Long Island, New York city yesterday.India were bowled out by Pakistan for 119 in 19 overs but while Mohammad Rizwan made 31 for Pakistan, Indian fast bowler Bumrah delivered crucial wickets and his 3-14 in four overs proved decisive as Pakistan fell just short, ending on 113-7 in front of a record 34,000 fans.In SportsBiz: The best players on the PGA Tour and LIV Golf are all making their way to Pinehurst, North Carolina, for the US Open, which begins Thursday. The tournament will feature 11 VIP areas scattered throughout the 18 holes, resulting in the second highest corporate hospitality sales for a US Open, behind only last year’s record tournament at Los Angeles Country Club.An inside source says those sales will total over US$23Million.Large companies from nearby Raleigh and Charlotte are responsible for most of those incoming dollars, but organizers are also benefiting from the growing trend of individual golf fans willing to spend big dollars on premium tickets. So the US Golf Association is rolling out “The 1895 Club” restricted to 400 fans, next to the 18th green at US$2500 per day, where buyers receive all-day gourmet dining, a top-shelf open bar, and complimentary golf cart shuttle service for entrance onto the grounds.Sales of 1895 Club tickets would bring in US$1M per day if completely sold out, which is already the case for Thursday and Friday. The new premium ticket follows a similar concept launched at the Masters this year, where Augusta National unveiled its first official hospitality experience, “Map & Flag”, priced at US$17,000 for a weekly pass, equating to about US$4428 per day.And in the NBA Finals: If you haven’t seen it yet, check out “Malace in the Palace” on Netflix – oh boy what a ripper doco on that famous scrap between the Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons! In the Olympic Games: The Paris Olympics gets underway on 26 July with an unprecedented opening ceremony involving a flotilla of barges carrying athletes down the iconic River Seine. But in typical French fashion, President Emmanuel Macron has called a surprise snap election, to be held just weeks before. With the outcome of the parliamentary vote looking shaky and unlikely to result in a clear majority for Macron, it raises the risk of civil unrest, at a time when Paris is hoping its 2.1 million residents come together to welcome the world to its city.Viva le France! Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 65 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Tuesday morning 11 June 2024.

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.

In rugby union: Our world famous tips for the Super Rugby Pacific semifinals: the Brumbies to bamboozle the Blues at Eden Park at 7.05pm on Friday night, and the Chiefs to curry potato the Hurricanes on Saturday at 4.35pm in Wellington.

In rugby league: Due to injury, Latrell Mitchell didn’t feature in the 2022 and 2023 ORIGIN series for New South Wales.

He was also overlooked for State of ORIGIN I this year, due to indifferent form.

Barring something drastic happening, Mitchell is now the short-priced favourite to be recalled by Madge, after an outstanding performance for South Sydney against the Gold Coast Titans over the weekend.

In Football: While Crystal Palace boasts more reps in the England squad than any other Club, Man City ties Inter Milan for the most players from a single Club at EURO 2024.

Pep Guardiola’s star-studded team contributes a trio of players to Portugal's EURO 2024 squad, three to England, a couple to Germany, Belgium and Croatia, plus Rodri to Spain, demonstrating their sheer strength in depth.

Meanwhile, the Viking Erling Haaland is twiddling his thumbs at home!

In Super Netball: Kiera Austin’s super shot masterclass guided the Melbourne Vixens to the top of the Super Netball ladder with a clinical 19-goal win against the Melbourne Mavericks at a sold-out John Cain Arena over the weekend.

The Vixens outscored their cross-town rivals 28-40 in the second-half to record an emphatic 77-58 win.

Meanwhile Giants Netball have vacated the basement of the Super Netball ladder, after a thrilling four-point win against the Queensland Firebirds - their first win over the Firebirds since Round 13, 2022.

In Tennis: Carlos Alcaraz celebrated a historic achievement at Roland Garros in Paris on Sunday.
The 21-year-old became the youngest man to win a major on three different surfaces after edging Alexander Zverev 6-3 2-6 5-7 6-1 6-2 in 4hr 15min in a compelling French Open final.

Alcaraz adds the clay court crown to his triumph at the US Open in 2022 and his victory at Wimbledon last year

In SportsBiz: World Athletics has announced The World Athletics Ultimate Championship to begin in 2026, offering a record US$10Million in prize money, with gold medalists set to receive US$150,000.

What’s the bet it will be held in Saudi Arabia?

And in the NBA Finals: The Boston Celtics tightened their grip on the 2024 NBA Finals, routing the Dallas Mavericks 98-105 in Game 2 at TD Garden in Boston yesterday.

With the win, the Celtics have a 2-0 lead as the series makes its way to Dallas.
Jrue Holiday continued his stellar postseason play, leading the Celtics with 26 points and eleven rebounds.

Celtics forward Jayson Tatum finished the game with 18 points, nine rebounds and a game-high 12 assists.

Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said. “Everybody that stepped on that court tonight made winning plays. That is the most important thing. It takes everybody to do it.”

The Celtics held the Mavericks to under 100 points for the second consecutive game, forcing 15 turnovers, ultimately limiting Dallas’ effectiveness on offense.

Despite the Mavericks struggling to find their rhythm offensively, Luka Doncic led the team with a game-high 32 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds. Kyrie Irving finished the contest with 16 points and six assists.

    And that’s a wrap!

Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 64 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Monday morning 10 June 2024.

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.

Congratulations Eleina McDonald, the new Manager of the Flying Fijians.

In rugby union: So the Super Rugby Pacific semifinal sees the Blues hosting the Brumbies at Eden Park at 7.05pm on Friday night, and in an all-kiwi clash in Wellington that is, the Hurricanes against the Chiefs on Saturday at 4.35pm.

The big question is – can the Brumbies crash the party in New Zealand?

In rugby league: The Storm were cruising at 34-16 in the 66th minute before Dane Gagai crossed for Newcastle and Enari Tuala reeled in a smart Jackson Hastings chip with four minutes to play, and it was game on.

The Storm hung on for a 36-28 win against a gallant bunch of Knights in an entertaining battle at AAMI Park.

In Football: There are 24 teams involved in the EURO 2024, which kicks off this weekend in Germany, all with squads of 26 men, drawn mostly from players in one of Europe's top 10 leagues, although some ply their trade in Saudi Arabia or the MLS, and others in England’s second-tier Championship or Italy's Serie B.

In Boxing: Controversial boxer Ryan Garcia was arrested for felony vandalism at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills on Saturday afternoon according to TMZ Sports.

Law enforcement sources say the American boxer was arrested and taken into custody after he allegedly damaged property at the hotel, including his room and the hallway.

The fighter was seemingly under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, complied with authorities and went peacefully to the Beverly Hills Jail shortly before 4pm Pacific time.

Eyewitnesses add, they saw nearly a dozen cop cars outside the hotel, responding to the incident.

TMZ Sports further reported that hotel staff called the Police on Wednesday night for a welfare check on Garcia, after a member of his family called reception saying he was in some kind of distress.

In SportsBiz: Thirty-eight States and the District of Columbia offer some form of legalized sports betting in the United States of America.

Revenues generated from State-sanctioned sports betting - which didn’t exist outside of Nevada until May 2018, when the US Supreme Court struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act; betting has climbed from US$135Million in 2017 to US$10.9Billion last year, according to the American Gaming Association.

Much of the betting industry’s growth, and misconduct has been fueled by mobile betting, which is available in 30 states plus DC.

And in the NBA Finals: The Boston Celtics do battle with the Dallas Mavericks in Game 02 of the NBA Finals at TD Garden in Boston again later today.

Finally, only in the USA: Unconfirmed reports say that Caitlin Clark won’t be – won’t be part of the United States women’s national basketball team for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

The news of Clark’s omission, which is not official yet, has exploded on social media and comes after her fantastic performance on Friday night.

She equaled a WNBA rookie record with seven 3-pointers for the Indiana Fever in front of the largest WNBA crowd in 17 years of 20,333 fans in Washington DC.

Minnesota Lynx coach, Cheryl Reeve, who was critical during the pre-season of the WNBA’s heavy focus on Clark, is coaching Team USA this summer, and reportedly wants to go with a veteran roster, according to reports.

Oh Caitlin, what have you done?
