Publisher's summary

“Whimsical, witty, and brimming over with charm” (India Holton), Olivia Atwater’s delightful debut will transport you to a magical version of Regency England, where the only thing more meddlesome than a fairy is a marriage-minded mother!

It’s difficult to find a husband in Regency England when you’re a young lady with only half a soul.

Ever since she was cursed by a faerie, Theodora Ettings has had no sense of fear or embarrassment—an unfortunate condition that leaves her prone to accidental scandal. Dora hopes to be a quiet, sensible wallflower during the London Season—but when Elias Wilder, the strange, handsome, and utterly ill-mannered Lord Sorcier, discovers her condition, she is instead drawn into peculiar and dangerous faerie affairs.

If her reputation can survive both her curse and her sudden connection with the least-liked man in all high society, then she and her family may yet reclaim their normal place in the world. But the longer Dora spends with Elias, the more she begins to suspect that one may indeed fall in love even with only half a soul.

I wasn’t expecting to like this

At first I thought this book would be kinda stupid and childish, but after the first 20-30 minutes I really got into the story. The characters so very interesting and dynamic. I really enjoyed how the plot developed and how the author attempted to show a narrative not normally shown in this type of book or time period.

Historical fantasy seems a little silly, but I think this was really well done. Definitely will read again.

A little short in my opinion

It was a little short, I wish they had expanded on the romance between the two main characters a bit more but other than that I really enjoyed the book to the end. I would definitely recommend

An absolute dream

"I am sure that every evil man believes himself to be charitable," she told him. "In that respect, at least, you are a true Englishman."

The perfect mixture of Howl’s Moving Castle and Pride & Prejudice! How could it be anything but 5 stars?! This best book I’ve read this year by far; I’ve already listened to it 2x this past month.

Loved the story. Charming characters. It was a mix of pride and prejudice and fairy magic.

A lovely and light read!

Just what I needed to entertain myself on a recent business trip - a lovely story that was surprisingly touching for a neurodivergent lady such as myself who doesn’t feel things quite the way others do

True strangers to enemies to lovers

This is how you do the trope!

The main female lead feels relatable, she isn’t other worldly beautiful or swarmed by men but she has great wit and I found my self laughing while listening to book.

The ending the ending omg the ending

This author has perfectly encapsulated what it truly means to love another and the way they make you feel. The main character (spoiler)*********
Has very dulled emotions so when she finally realizes her own feelings it is that much sweeter. The narration preforms wonderfully. I cried and the sweet part and shook with hatred at the villains but the narrator was absolutely perfect for this book especially at betraying the utter befuddlement of the main character. I have never had a favorite book since I have started reading only a top ten. This has quite literally stolen my heart and I am unsure I will ever be the same again. I almost wish I could forget the book just to have the first read again.

It was cute

It was a cute story. It took me a few chapters to get used to the narrator though. I thought it was going to be more fantasy and magic, but it was Pride and Prejudice X Rumpelstiltskin type vibe.
